About TRASH / Rules

What is TRASH, you may ask? To make a long story short, it's a quiz bowl format devoted entirely to pop culture! Don't expect questions on Sumerian love poetry and bosons in TRASH - we specialize in sports, TV, movies, pop music, pop lit and anything weird.

IOW, if you want a question on C.P. Snow, try the other guys. But if you want questions on Al Snow, J.T. Snow, or the Canadian rapper Snow, try TRASH!

For many of you, the rules and regulations for TRASH are old hat. But for some of you, this is new. So, I'll go through just about everything!

The game is 20 tossups in length.  When a player from a team answers a tossup correctly, the team earns 10 points, then the team gets a bonus question worth up to 30 points.
That's the simple part :)
During a tossup, once a player buzzes in, the player gets five seconds to answer.
If a question is completely read, the teams have five seconds to answer before the question is thrown out.  If a team member interrupts the reading of the question, and does not respond correctly,  the team will be penalized 5 points.
On a bonus, a team gets five seconds to debate each part, as well as an additional five seconds after each prompt. On a list or calculation question, teams get 15 seconds to debate, and five seconds after the prompt.
At TRASH tournaments, there are bonus lames and steals.
On the bonus lame, a team can reject a bonus by saying lame BEFORE IT IS PROMPTED ON THE FIRST PART OF THE BONUS! If the team makes the lame, it then gets the next bonus in the question pack. Teams get one bonus lame per round.  On the bonus steal, if a team lames the bonus, the opposing squad has the option of stealing said bonus. The moderator is encouraged to ask the opposing team if it wants to steal the bonus after a lame. The "stolen bonus" will be the next bonus read for said team.
If a game ends in a tie, that's it. No sudden death, no rock-paper-scissors, nada.
